  2. Squirrel you forgot one thing not everyone had the fancie steering wheels so not everyone can back up so good including me

  3. A quick tip: Imagine the BOTTOM of your steering wheel, whichever way it´s pointing that's the direction the trailer is going to turn.

  4. Why do American trucks have these long "noses" while the European have flat faces? Is there a difference, some reason for this?

  5. Don't forget your 4 ways when reversing! That's how the intent to reverse is communicated in North America.

  6. Dla NORMALNEGO Europejczyka taki filmik to kpina i umieram ze śmiechu podczas oglądania :D. Ale dla populacji z USA… to przydany stek informacji.

  7. Very good explained, but hearing it like this sounds odd to me, because I don't need to think about it. Now I just remembered how damn confusing it can be! 😀

  8. While I was instructing students I would always tell them an old paradox, the slower you go the quicker you will get it done. Meaning, don't try and get the reverse done in one move, take a couple of bites until you are truly competent. Even us experienced truckers have problem days where we look like complete novices. As mentioned in another post, put your hand at the 6 o'clock position and move it towards the direction you want the trailer to go.

  9. Here one for you Paul; a vid on explaining shifting and how truck gearing works. I am a complete fuck-tard on this I still can't wrap my mind around the difference things like what does the High-Low selector do verses the Splitter? What does it mean to "take half a gear"?

  10. I've always backed up from the in the cabin camera. I just think about it as I turn towards the mirror that I don't want to see the trailer in. If that makes any sense.

  11. Lol at 16:53 he switches to external camera and goes "and there you go" and you see that he's like 20 feet from the parking space lmao

  12. I just watched the ATS review and the whole (by now) Trucking School, and I have to thank you for all these videos. I've been playing ETS2 for a while but I've learned by trial and error. (I play with keyboard and sequential change and I don't know how to use the retarder yet, e.g.). Now I'm thinking about buying the ATS and your videos are very useful to get into the game in a proper way. Some things are a bit obvious at least for me, but I'm grateful with all your advices and your dedication; step by step, of course! One more thing, thank you very much for the subtitles, they are awesome for me. Greetings from Spain, here it is a new subscriber 😉

  14. As far as the sight-side back, coming from somebody who does this for a living, I was always taught to look out the window to see where the trailer was going. You can only see so much with the mirrors, you have a much better visibility looking out the window. As for the blind-side back, I was always told don't do it unless you absolutely have no choice. When in doubt, get out and look.

  15. I first started playing trucking games way back when Hard Truck came out, and my second truck driving game was Haulin, which was when I finally learned how to back a trailer up, on my own, might I add. Basically, I learned that if you look at the truck head on, you can just turn the wheel in the direction you want the trailer to go, and it will go that way. Then I could use the mirrors inside the truck, by just imagining myself looking at the truck head on. My friend, who is my age, both seniors in high school, still cant back up trailers in games, and I keep trying to teach him how. Hopefully this video will help him more than I can. 😂

  16. when you were talking about the articulation point and locking the trailer on to the truck, how did you go into that view where you can freely move around?

  17. Don't you have to purchase your first truck before being able to practice backing? Sorry if I missed this somewhere in video. 🙂

  18. Okay I'm lost here, where the heck do you get the trailer to be able to practice with? If I use a delivery trailer then I will be late for drop off if I practice with it.

  19. Thanks for this I am struggling so much with parking hope that I can put some of these principles into practice and learn how too park.  Seems a great game and allows me too do some driving even if its only virtual as I am banned from driving now and will be for the rest of my life.

  20. Thanks for the tips. I'll put it to good use with normal trailers, and work my way up to reversing oversized trailers.

  21. I'll surely have to put these tips into practice, I always have issues with reversing. I always try, and nearly jackknife most of the time.

  22. I might have watched this video 100 times ad I still can't properly reverse. My trailer either bends too much or not at all and seems to do it's own thing instead of following my directions. Not really sure if I need to fix something on my settings or I just suck at the game (which is probably the problem). But hey, great video! Very well explained. Thanks a lot

  23. My main issue with ATS so far is that the exhaust pipes are fucking huge. You literally can't see where the trailer is until it's at a 20 degree angle. At which point it's too late, and you gotta reposition….

  24. having been a teacher for 35 years, I have to say that you're a pretty good one. Bravo, and thanks

  25. Not complaining because the video was very helpful but my external view shows my steering direction and angle by default, at the bottom of the screen. It would have been great if you had been showing this, I think my issue is that I am steering way too much when from the look of it you are barely turning the wheels.

  26. I'm glad you made this. Never driven anything with a trailer in my life and wanted to try this game and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the trailer to move the way I want it to. Doesn't help I'm VERY bad at driving.

  27. I went for the hardest way with the mirrors plus I know how cuz my dad drives a semi and I understand it all …don't jackknife your self. Right to turn the trailer left then turn left to get the trailer to go right

  28. Just tried reversing a bi trailer and I was a nightmare lol! It's a cruelty when this game pay u 10k for a job when u have to park it reverse in a narrow spot! Happy trucking 2018

  29. cool video, I am not sure if you still make ATS videos but could you make a video on how to reverse with Articulated trailers?? i cannot figure it out

  30. Hello Paul is trucking school the actual name of the game / simm
I’m new to all this , just thought I’d ask ?

    Reply

  31. tip from the movie Cars and this applies to backing up a trailer Go Right to go Left and Go Left to go Right. the problem is that fifth wheel. If you do it wrong you will jackknife and you will have to drop the trailer and reset.

  32. 7:26 whenever we feel comfortable—well that’s the hard part I think. I either turn too early or too late. Or I turn too much. I understand how it works but just find it hard to operate in different situations

    Reply

  33. also I sometimes find the trailer barely moves. It’s just turning it’s direction but without actually moving backward. Maybe I was reversing a more difficult truck

  34. Amazing video 😀

Question: I know how things work, but I´m just messing it up anyways… Is it just, a matter of practice? 🙂

  35. im only twelve i can drive a tractor and once my uncle told me to reverse and he will give me $100 i was like wow thats easy and when i go outside i ask him are you gonna detach the trailer or what he said no youre gonna reverse it like that and it took me 3 hours to reverse it and to make it harder he put two cars near the tractor each 7 ft away and i almost hit both of them about 38 times but i did get the tractor out of the yard and i got the $100

  36. Imagine you have special imaginary arrows pointing from your steer tires to the back of the truck, whatever way your tires are pointing to the back, is what way that trailer will go.

  37. Whilst looking out of my window its almost no problem but doing it just from the inside screws up my whole thinking and I keep on turning and steering like stupid…
And then I got the brilliant idea to add my wheel to the PC and now its completely weird.
But I'm still quite hopeful that I will manage to learn this. Especially the big trailers with a little one attached to them will be a total pain in the ass I fear. 😀
But to get an idea how to start learning this the video was perfect! Thanks for that!
