In this one I carry on east through an Arizonan snowstorm with my cycling buddy Jiawei. Soon after arriving in New Mexico I get spotted by the google street view car and then meet an old cycle touring friend I hadn’t seen for over a year. Oh, and I also get to witness a guy attempt to eat a 72 ounce streak at the Big Texan in Amarillo!

Google street view location:

Let me know if you can find Jiawei. I haven’t been able to. He should be a mile or so ahead of me.

  1. Run Slime…pull out and pump tire….above 32° F…The wonderful dry culvert. Yes. Great middle of nowhere campsite. Shortwave and hot coffee, cream and sugar. Many times….Ambulance waiting outside the steakhouse for the next casualty…..

  2. I'm happy zhao wei got to meet up with you. I'm sure he got to do some things he never would have done had this encounter never happened.

  3. Ed, do you not have your tire lined with a few strips of duct tape (gorilla tape is best) ? Between the tube and tire, sticking to the tire. At least two no more than three layers.

  4. A good tip for cycle tourists out there is don't throw away old tubes, cut them down into patches instead, making sure to only use bits that are not with holes in them of course.

  5. Rain and snow. An advisory to cyclists with glasses. Lol. Also tuffy liner haven't had a flat in 2 years.

  6. You deserve everything you got. Your a person of truth, friendship, personality. Everyone you meet are there for a reason. It's to help you be you. I wish I could do this but I wouldn't have the patience or self awareness to do it

  7. I’ve got an idea for you. You need to attach a piece of alloy thick wire to the leg of your unicycle, form it into a thing, pointing forward your move, going almost under the wheel, in front of it, than making a turn across the direction of your move to make an L-shape piece, that is going to be right in front of the point, where the wheel touches the ground. To that piece you have to attach strong magnets, that are going to collect any of magnettable metal pieces before they reach your tire. You can even make a small pad with magnets, that will be above the ground and in front of the spot, where the tire touches the ground. This is how you can stop catching these nasty pieces of metal with your tire.

  8. can you guys not use slime in your tyres to help things like that? I've had good luck with it on my pneumatic pev's.

  9. Ed, there are so many awesome places to the north of you right now, like Monument Valley and Page Arizona, Lee's Ferry, Mexican Hat, etc. Its too bad its not springtime or you could go a little further north and the scenery is 10X what you are seeing along 66.
Oh, and you gotta go tubeless man! Never get a flat.

  10. Yo Ed and community! I have been enjoying watching these and want to ride a unicycle! problem being im 110kg and i don't want to buy one that will break (: I don't mind spending up to $1000 because I have ridden one before when i was a younger lad and want to do it to get out and get healthier. Im guessing people have already asked this but most of the forum posts i can find on the net are from 5+ yrs ago. has anyone been in my scenario and recommend any particular model? I did jump of curbs ect but know i wouldn't be able to at this weight until i Lose some weight but this would be the goal to ride around and be able to jump off curbs and up steps ect. Thank you if you have even read all of this I know it's a long one.

  14. Hi Ed, I know how much time it takes to edit a video like this. Do you really do all the editing yourself?

  15. I does not appear that there is any gearing in his hub but the outside diameter of the wheel is much bigger than what you see with two wheels. I wonder what ratio he is using in inches as is usually used for two wheel vehicles.

  17. That truck driver must have balls of steel. I used to drive trucks and I would never stop on an off ramp to talk to someone. That guys a nut, thats so dangerous, risking peoples lives and his career. Risking your own life standing on the side of the road wasn't a big deal but the risk of someone crashing into the back of the trailer and killing themselves by accident while you're parked was terrifying.

  23. Don't you have a tire with Kevlar in it? It helps the problems you have all the time. I bike a lot too also fully packed so I do understand the frustration off flat tires……
