De-Ice a car in 2½ minutes | Learn to drive: Car Knowledge

A thick frost in the morning can look pretty, but it’s a pain to deal with before driving to work. It is illegal to drive a car without a clear view through every window, so this video shows a quick and easy de-icing method, so you can get away as soon as possible. You’ll need a proper ice scraper, and for really cold days a can of De-Icer spray.

  2. Hello. I recently became a subscriber of your website. I have a question. Doesn't ice scraper make scratches on windscreen?

  4. Meths in a plant-spray bottle, will de-ice the windscreen quickly. It has a freezing point of -110C, so can withstand the harshest of winters. Plus it's a glass cleaner, so it will clear the screen in that respect too.

  5. Warm water! (Around 30°C)
    NOT hot water..
Been doing it for 30 years, no problems and warm hands😂
Takes 10 seconds to do the whole car and wont re-freeze quickly as it warms the glass above 0°C.
DE-Icer totally screws your wiper blades and rubber seals within a couple of seasons.
I am fully qualified and experienced car painter/beater by the way😉

  6. Yeah my car takes an absolute ages to demist and my rear window is the worst as the condensation lingers for a long time. I just wipe the rear with a cloth because there is clearly something wrong. Takes 5 mins of driving with the rear heater on just to clear entirely….

  7. i have read that frequent use of ice scrapers starts to make the glass thinner and eventually it can fall out and be dangerous and that de-icer over-spray causes paint to peel off when warmer weather returns. is this true?

  8. came across your4 video all the way from over here in missouri. its december 7th & already snowed here 6 times this season! also coldest ever on record for this time of year. many thick ice or snow covered car mornings already. the other morning i took a chance and left car running on street. i live on a busy street and i was def taking my chances and as nervous as that made me i preferred it to being out there in the cold and scraping! and so i thought id search for ideas (i need a hobby!)
one additional suggestion id make is park front of car toward sunrise if possible at night, sometimes it helps.
    great video. thank you.

  9. Start the engine, put the heat on full, turn on AC/Circulating and Rear heated window/Mirrors, takes less than a few minutes, why bother with these scraper and sprays?.

  10. There are things you can put in the windscreen overnight, won't ice up anymore but if the windscreen is cleaned and coated properly the ice would literally come off using wipers/hand/soft brush even if you leave it normally during the night. Also i recommend trying to lock the running car just in case

  11. Buy a ford with front and rear heated screens and laugh at the neighbours as you jump in and drive off with the seats warming your butt while i lift 1 finger to press 2 buttons.

  12. Replying to comments on a 2.5 year old video? That's dedication if ever I've seen it!

I think I'm the only one looking forward to winter – there's something really satisfying about scraping ice off a windscreen on a cold morning! 😅
