Artistic and technical breakthroughs created the West 7th Street Bridge built in downtown Fort Worth. Conquering design and construction challenges, engineers built this first-of-its-kind design to meet the community’s needs for aesthetics, budget, and speed.
The transition between the demolition of the old and the opening of the new bridge, built in the same spot, had to take place in an unusually short period of time to minimize impact to traffic. The unique concrete bridge design required an equally unique construction plan. A solution was to construct offsite what was believed to be the world’s largest precast concrete arches transported to a bridge location.
