  4. The little Darts and Dusters were outrunning big block muscle cars with the 340 engines. https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=A0geKaMGwPlcxygAYkFXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTB0N2Noc21lBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNwaXZz?p=1969+Dart+GTS+340&fr2=piv-web&fr=mcafee#id=54&vid=79f5cfa18fd8074eeea6889b48191abf&action=view

  5. All old cars h.p were under rated as for insurance you paid more for the power.
    440 4bbl had 420 hp Fords 428 SCJ 410 hp..
    426 Hemi's made right around the 500 mark and carb/headers over 550 hp !
All pre 71 engines were not true hp/torqu…Pontiac 455 SD 72-74 (cant remember when tthey stopped it) Were seriously under rated ,they ran 12 second 1/4 miles in the smog era ! Sure skinny bia ply tires they ran 14's and 15's lol ,these ran 12's all day long ! I am NOT a GM guy !

  6. Remember these times were done with factory bias ply tires 205 – 60 -14 (some had 15) were the widest ! The had zero traction !
    No track compounds like today
Most tests were done on parking lots or side streets
My buddies 1968 120,000 mile 383 2bbl 2.76 axle Chrysler Newport ran 14.80's to 15 flat all the time (Uncle owned the local track in the 1970's and 80's we ran our cars when it was closed)
My stock 1968 Charger RT 440 Magnum ,727,3.23 gear car ran 12.80's with pro trac 275 -60 series in 1976-77…Only tuned/jetted the carb..I later added a duel plane intake, headers car ran low 12's again no cam or engine mods..
My Low Compression 1972 Road Runner 400 4bbl ran 13.90's,again a low compression engine.

  8. these are all gross horsepower numbers. since the later 70s all manufactures had to release net horsepower ratings which include the drag of accessories like power steering,ac,altinator, water pump, clutch fan, ect. this with the newer moters breathing better and better valve timing making a flatter torque curve is why all of these cars seem so slow for there hp numbers.

  9. And yet an electric semi can accelerate from zero to sixty in less than 3.5 seconds. No muscle car can do that.

Now one is a sell out and the other is a buy out.
Chevy and Dodge is making trash in 2019. Both companies have been in the s**** for the last 11 to 12 years
